Setting

The autumn evening sun reminds me of then;

The days of the past — I remember when.

My life was much different and the moments were bleak.

The consequence was not a lesson and inner-voice did not speak.

Sequestered spaces in shade with those of my kind.

We’d wait for the darkness to alter the mind.

Praising and passing our pleasure around.

Burying our sorrow so deep in our ground.

Chilly nights were so warm with the spirits in hand.

Our inner-wolves would howl out as we scavenged the land.

Find what was destructive and revel in waste.

We’d walk many miles for just a small taste…

Bury the friend — the time is at hand.

We lived hard and died young, and many now stand

at the grave of the loved one that took themselves down

from autumn sun the was setting, to the hole in their ground.

We looked at ourselves and chose a new way.

The sun now looks different than it had yesterday….

I looked at the horizon and saw all that was gone,

and I saw the yellow hue and reflections of wrong.

Life is much different on this September eve,

for those moments had shaped how I now perceive.

The richness of peace in this season of time

has taught me the meaning of all left behind.

The autumn evening sun reminds me of then;

The days of the past — I remember when.
